Book Description
In this book each double-page spread evokes things the author treasures for their antiquity. He praises "old towns, where streets whisper the secrets of the years, their buildings leaning against one another like family dogs asleep." Accompanying this is a color reproduction of a painting in which an aged town slumbers in the moonlight.

Some of the old things honored in this book are houses, gardens, trees, books, customs, shops and holidays.

About the Author
Harold Darling, like most of us, is inconsistent in his devotion to the antique. He prefers newness in many important areas of life: socks, scissors, fan belts, toothbrushes, kite strings, razor blades, golf balls, rubber bands and garden hoses. In other areas he leans towards the antique. Some of these are mentioned in this book. Among those not mentioned are: board games, telephones, cuff links, pocket watches, magazines, churches, postage stamps, bookends and filing cabinets.

He lives in a middle-aged house in Seattle, Washington.
