About the Author
Liz Aleshire

Liz Aleshire has been writing and quilting for over 30 years. She authored hundreds of newspaper and magazine articles, one children’s non-fiction book, and co-authored two adult non-fiction books. A twenty-five year member of the International Women’s Writing Guild, Aleshire lectures on many writing topics.

Her interest in quilting started with her great-Grandmother’s Dresden Plate quilt. “It's faded, ragged and badly worn, but you can feel the love that went into it, and I cherish it dearly,” Aleshire said. “It's what got me interested in quilting.”

A traditional quilt maker who prefers making geometric scrap-bag quilts, Aleshire enjoys finishing antique quilt tops, since she likes the quilting more than the piecing. Her antique quilt collection continues to grow.

Kathleen Barach

Kathleen Barach is a writer and Registered Nurse, who has written books and articles on such diverse topics as setting a cost for nursing care, and preserving American carousels. She started sewing at a very young age, and has applied her long-term sewing knowledge to quilting and antique quilt collecting. Although most of the quilting she does is on clothing–wearable art–partly because she likes the piecing more than the quilting, she very much appreciates the work and creativity that quilters have always put into larger pieces of the quilted art.

If she had unlimited funds, Barach’s antique quilt collection would be huge, for she usually falls in love with at least half of the quilts she sees. “Research for the Official Price Guide to Quilts brought me in contact with some of the leading experts in the field, and gave me a wonderful opportunity to increase my own knowledge,” she said. “And it has given me the chance to evaluate hundreds of antique quilts.”
