Waldo's training and rehabilitation were strictly a labor of love, and I never expected to see any returns other than satisfaction from witnessing Waldo's improved quality of life. At the time of Waldo's arrival, it happened that I needed material for submission to The Backcountry Llama Newsletter, and so I chronicled Waldo's training. Numerous reader requests resulted in expansion and publication of Waldo's story as a popular book, and I am constantly astonished (and gratified) by the ever-increasing number of people who have come to appreciate and love Waldo, the former throw-away llama.
