Editorial Reviews
Book Description
The perky, friendly Bichon Frise has a distinctive white, “powder-puff” coat. It is a small dog that thrives best in an indoor environment. This book presents the breed's history, from it origins as a favored pet among European nobility to its relatively recent recognition by the AKC. Here too is extensive advice on feeding, training, grooming, and general care. Books in this handsomely produced series are written especially for new and soon-to-be pet owners. Most volumes, filled with striking color illustrations, give in-depth presentations of the needs and traits of specific dog breeds. Starting this season,Living With a Pet books are expanding to include other animals that have become popular as house pets. Before acquiring a pet, potential buyers need to know: Is the animal good with children? Which dog breeds make good hunters, guard dogs, or farm dogs? Which animals make ideal apartment pets? Each title in this series gives readers a detailed understanding of the animal's daily needs, special abilities, physical traits, temperament, susceptibility to health problems, and the many other details prospective owners need to know before acquiring a pet. All Living With a Pet titles are hardcover editions with jackets, and all have color photos on every two-page spread. Interesting sidebars appear throughout the text.

Loving and affectionate, the Bichon Frisé, with his pure white coat and big brown eyes, is one of the most endearing of all breeds.

Bred over centuries to be a perfect companion, the Bichon is also a remarkably intelligent dog, and fans will tell you that to own a Bichon you need to have your wits about you!

Living With a Bichon Frisé traces the history of the breed from its Mediterranean roots to its present-day status as a popular pet and star of the show ring.

Advice tailored specifically to the Bichon covers a wide variety of topics, including feeding (from puppyhood to adulthood), grooming, exercise, and general care.

The Bichon may be small in size, but training and socialization are still vitally important. Step-by-step exercises and tips for taking your Bichon out and about will help you mold your puppy into a well-behaved adult.

If you want to find out just how clever a Bichon is, look at the chapter, Broadening Horizons, which tells the stories of Bichons competing in Obedience and Agility, and describes those that do valuable therapy work.

Finally, distinguished veterinarian Trevor Turner writes on the health of the breed. As well as covering breed-prone conditions and first aid, he outlines a comprehensive program of health care to ensure that your Bichon stays as fit and healthy as possible throughout his life.
